SEARCHING FOR THE GOLDEN AGE-(English)

Dear Agathiyarians,

Somebody was saying something about Golden Ages in India/Tamilnadu.
But this is very very much doubtful.

There have always been wars and never any lengthy period of peace.

During the Sangam Age, we find the Pandyas fighting with the Cholzas
and Cheras. Cheras against the others. Pandyas against everyone. And then there were VELir chieftains who either joined one party or the other. We read about Adhiyaman against Malaiyaman.
During later times, we have several kingdoms and empires south of the Vindhya Mountains. This is Deccan or Peninsular India.
In the Deccan Plateau north of the Krishna, and across TungaBadra, there were the Satakarnis, Vakatakas, followed the Grand Chalukyas. They were overthrown by their underlings the Rashtrakutas. They, in turn were toppled by Western Chalukyas.
In the meanwhile, after Kalabra periods, we have the Pandyas and the Pallavas.
They were all the time fighting with each other.
The Pallavas were, at the same period, also fighting aginst the Grand Chalukyas, followed by the Rashtrakutas.
When the Pallavas and Pandyas wore themselves out and became
completely weak, they were overcome by the Imperial Cholzas.
They took over and there were many wars between them and the Pandyas, Pallavas, Cheras, and the Singhalese.
When they had more of less subdued them, they were fighting huge wars with the Western Chalukyas, Kalingas, etc.

But there was a period of comparative peace during the rules of Vikrama Cholza, Kuloththunga II and RajaRaja II. That lasted for about 50 years.
After that, there seems to have been a disturbance which resulted in change of direct dynastic lineage.

And then the Cholzas were plunged into the civil war of the Pandyas and
the Singhalese.
After that war, the Cholza Kuloththunga III fought a terrible war against Pandya Kulasekhara. His brother Maravrman Sundara Pandya took up arms against the Cholzas Kuloththunga III and his son RajaRaja III. And defeated them. The Cholza empire was no more. And the country was partially destroyed.
The final blow to the Cholzas was when Jatavarman Sundara Pandya defeated the Cholza Rajendra III. After that, there were no more Cholzas.
The Pandyas went of fighting against the Singhalese, the Malays in Ceylon, aganist the Hoysalas who had toppled the Western Chalukyas.

Finally they had a second civil war between two Pandyan brothers
when one of them invited Malik Kafur of the Turkish Empire of Delhi.
There were three invasions which desolated Tamilnadu. Until the
Kannadigas and the Andras conquered Tamilnadu.

After that there were many other wars which the Tamils fought for
their Telugu rulers, the Marathas, and the Mughals, and finally the British.
It all ended with the institution of Pax Brittanica - British Peace
imposed by the British which lasted for one century after which the Independance movement came into being.
The enmity between the Chalukyas and the Cholzas was far far
greater than the enmity between India and Pakistan. The wars between
them were far more ferocious in nature. This is only one example.
The Tamils are supposed to be one nation. But how many countries
were there in Tamilnadu? We were never united.
As for a single culture, that is also a myth.
We always had different cultures. And these cultures also varied and modified themselves according to who rules. The culture also changed with migrations, invasions, and the changes in religious thought.
We also had numerous religions. They are not the present Hinduism.
Religious state has always changed during the times.
What is reality in history is different from what we would like
to beleive.
